Stories have always been a part of the human experience, one of the most powerful ways we connect with one another. We share them every day over coffee, sometimes in the privacy and safety of our homes, sometimes unexpectedly on a plane with a stranger. Storytelling is an interactive kind of theater, a form of folk art. We all have at least a few of them inside, waiting to be told.
Bring your own true story that fits in with our monthly theme. Folks who don’t typically get onstage, as well as veteran performers, will have an opportunity to tell a true life story in 5 minutes. Of course, all are welcome to come and listen only, but we’d like to encourage people to try telling one too. This is storytelling, not a reading, so no notes please. And while we welcome humor, this is for a story, not a stand up comedy routine. This series was inspired by other true story telling events including Rhode Island’s own award winning Live Bait.
In addition to the individual stories, the host will tell a true story and also do a Minnesota form monolog with the latest from the “The Ocean State Update”.
This is an adult only event, 18+. We want to ensure that the adults feel free to tell their stories without concern for little ears, and many of the host’s stories include topics that may be inappropriate for children.
